Greater Noida Farmers’ Movement: Thousands Participate in Kisan Panchayat and Day-long Dharna
On 17 July, the land acquisition affected farmers of Greater Noida once again took to the street through a large procession and sat on a day-long dharna in front of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to remind the UP state government and its administration of their main demands – 10% developed plots, settlement and disposal of cases related to housing sites and lease back and implementation of the new land acquisition act (LARR), 2013.
This protest march organised by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Kisan Parishad and Kisan Ekta Sangh under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Morcha was supported by several other kisan organisations of Gautam Budh Nagar and adjoining districts as well as mass and class organisations like AIDWA, CITU, advocates and local representatives of political parties like Samajwadi Party and INC.
Senior officials of the Greater Noida Authority and police came for dialogue and assured protestors that within a fortnight meetings with leaders of the Kisan Sangharsh Morcha will be organised with officials of the three Authorities – GNIDA, NOIDA & YIDA and the district administration.
